She is very unsure of her future.... What are you afraid of: Being alone Losing her family Of being hated by those she loves Rp - As per tradition, a young June Hargrove was required to wait until all her school shopping was completed before she could choose her wand. “Juney, remember, your wand will choose YOU!” Her older sister reminded her, fussy but with a pleased undercurrent. The older Hargrove girl held onto her little sister’s hand, just outside the shop as they awaited their parents to rejoin them. They had promised to meet the girls at the shop, as they had to meet up with some work-place acquaintances, or so they said. June, the younger girl, was just inpatient. She didn’t care about the why, she just wanted her family to hurry up so she could finally get her wand! “I bet my wand will be bigger than yours!” The little girl declared, swinging her braided hair to smack her sister. Any chance she could get, she LOVED to annoy her older sister. A few minutes later, the Lord and Lady of the Hargrove house appeared. With delighted grins, they steered their two daughters inside the old and worn cobbled shop. Of course, given that the Hargrove family was visiting Elder & Ash during their peak season, before the Hogwarts school year began, they did have to wait their turn. Once the last family cleared out of the shop, it was June’s turn. Her parents gently pushed her forward towards the counter, and her sister let go of her hand. “I am ready to meet my wand.” June confidently stated, trying to encourage herself. RE: June Hargrove - Bernadette Hawthorn - 07-09-2026 “Good day to you! Welcome to Elder and Ash, I am Bernadette…Hmm… Or Bernie or Miss Hawthorn or Witchy McWitchface,” she titters with laughter, high and squeaky. “Don’t you fret, I will answer to just about anything… Except Clyde.” She shakes her head emphatically. “HE is a bowtruckle and can be quite persnickety, so watch your eyeballs, he likes to poke.” She nods at the young student, as if what she said was the most important piece of knowledge to take away from this conversation. “Can I assume you are here to find your wand? Yes!? Of course! Good Good.” Not waiting for a response, Bernie comes around the counter and begins measuring the patron who just entered her shop. Lifting this arm and that, measuring each individual finger, kneeling and quickly measuring their feet, then popping back up to look deeply, and awkwardly into their eyes. “Fascinating. Did you know a quarter of the bones in your body are in your hand? No?! I didn't think so. OK! Let’s find you a wand. Pop Pop!” Bernie ran around the shop, spitting out random nonsense facts that most people really didn’t need to know. “Did you know that your left lung is slightly smaller than your right? Did ya? Nope. Why? To make room for your heart? Awwww, so sweet.” “Ok, let's try this one on for size.” Coming down from a ladder with multiple boxes haphazardly clutched in her arms. One attempts to jump out of her arms, but she manages to keep them all balanced. Handing the wand over to the student, Bernie steps back a touch so that she isn’t in the line of fire.. It was rare to find a match with the first box, but it could be done. “Go on then,” she said, waving her hands about. “Give it a flick.” I’m trying something a little different, so you have more say in the making of your wand. Below you will find the descriptions of multiple wand woods and cores that I think work well for your character. Take a look at the combinations. In your next post you can find your perfect wand using the options provided, or pick a less than stellar option and blow something up in the shop. Bernie doesn’t mind. At the end of your post, put an OOC with your FAVORITE combo and if you are finding it in the first go, or if you want to RP a few duds first. If you think I got your character wrong, message me so we can work on it together. When I post I will add the size and flexibility HAVE FUN!! WAND WOOD Holly Holly chooses those who possess tremendous potential hidden beneath emotional intensity. Its owners are passionate, courageous, and often driven by a desire to become better than they once were. Though they may wrestle with anger or impulsiveness, Holly rewards those who continually strive toward self-improvement. Ash Ash chooses witches and wizards whose convictions are difficult to shake. They are dependable, courageous, and steadfast, often serving as the emotional anchor within their families or friendships. Though stubborn, they are rarely arrogant, preferring consistency and loyalty over personal acclaim. English Oak English Oak chooses individuals whose greatest strength is unwavering loyalty. They are courageous without being reckless, dependable without being rigid, and possess a deep respect for both people and the natural world. Their quiet confidence makes them natural leaders in times of crisis. Rowan Rowan chooses those who possess unwavering integrity. Calm under pressure and guided by a strong moral compass, its owners instinctively defend those who cannot defend themselves. Though often gentle by nature, they become remarkably formidable when confronting evil or injustice. WAND CORE Griffin Claw Griffin Claw chooses individuals whose courage is tempered by compassion. They are fierce when necessary but rarely seek conflict for its own sake. Loyalty, honor, and justice are the traits this core values most. Werewolf Tooth A Werewolf Tooth wand chooses individuals who understand hardship and perseverance. Its owners are often resilient, fiercely protective of those they love, and willing to stand against injustice. While the core possesses strong Dark Arts affinities, it judges character more by loyalty than morality. Dragon Heartstring Dragon Heartstring chooses those with tremendous drive and confidence. Its owners are often fearless, passionate, and willing to throw themselves wholeheartedly into whatever they pursue. Whether their ambition leads to greatness or infamy depends entirely on the individual, as this core is willing to channel nearly any form of magic. Thestral Hair Despite its association with death, Thestral Hair seeks those who understand life's fragility rather than fear it. Its owners are often deeply loyal, quietly courageous, and willing to shoulder burdens for others. They value honesty, trust, and meaningful relationships above status or power. RE: June Hargrove - June Hargrove - 07-12-2026 For little June, it felt a little awkward to have her feet and extremities measured, and she spared a glance at her older sister. The older student, Irene, gave her an encouraging nod. In this simple exchange, June absolutely missed out on the whole spiel that the wand maker had. However, it was pretty evident what the young witch was supposed to do, when presented with a wand. Squaring her shoulders back, she firmly gripped the offered wand. Rowan & Dragon Heartstring. It was a rather cool shade of brown, and held a very simple design on it. And upon a single touch it… Wilted. Did wands usually wilt? How is that possible? June wondered, as she started shaking the wand, watching it flop up and down and about. “I don’t think this is the one for me…”, She forced out, trying to ignore her parents and sister chuckling behind her. “At least I didn’t blow up any light bulbs..” She muttered, failing to keep that as a thought. I'd like to choose Holly & Werewolf tooth, after a bit of back and forth. If that is cool! RE: June Hargrove - Bernadette Hawthorn - 07-13-2026 “OH FOR THE LOVE OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS! That was not it at all, DRAT.” Snatching it out of June's hand, Bernie packaged the wand up gingerly, folding the gauze ribbon over the wand as if it were a sleeping baby. The box was carefully placed on the back counter under a sign that read “NOPE!” Those would be cleaned and checked for damage before returning to the shelf. Now... what to do, what to do... “Ok, let me think, let me think. Hmm..” Turning abruptly, Bernie went to stare at the poor young soul in her shop. Arms crossed, fingers tapping thoughtfully on her chin. After a couple rotations around the student, she stopped and closed one eye… Then the other. “Did you know there are no muscles in your fingers? No? Shocking! Well… you do now. Ok, I think I have an option.” Rifling through the stack of wands she originally chose, Bernie looked at one, then discarded it to the Nope pile. Opened another box, turned and looked at June, looked at the wand, looked at June with one eye closed. Straight to the nope pile it went. This was a fickle art. “Ok, let's see if this one doesn't melt in your hand. Bad one before. Rowan is a silly wood sometimes, very particular, very stubborn. This one is better suited. Yes, I believe so.” Claude looked on, now perched on Bernie's shoulder. His beady eyes watching the shenanigans play out. "English Oak and Thestral Hair, 12 inches, Swishy. Now go on, give it a wave." RE: June Hargrove - June Hargrove - 07-14-2026 "English Oak and Thestral Hair, 12 inches, Swishy. Now go on, give it a wave." The young witch eagerly grabbed the offered wand. She held onto it for only a second, before it literally flew out of her hand. Pure shock ran through June. As the wand had jumped out of her hand, she had to leap to grab it again, so it wouldn't fall onto the ground. But with every touch of her fingers to the wood, it kept jumping and hopping, refusing her. The shenanigans continued, until June's mother stepped in. She was an elegant lady, with tightly braided hair and dark robes. Her frosty blue eyes gleamed playfully, as if she knew that her daughter would be a tough witch to match. The mother gently laid her hand on her youngest daughter's shoulder, and snatched the uncooperative wand out of the air before it could get damaged. While the wand did not agree with her, it wasn't jumping for the hills either. With a grin, she presented the wand back to the wand maker. June huffed, annoyance now winning. "Mooom, this is my ceremony!" She petulantly whined. Very quickly, she was quieted by a sharp look from her mother, and then turned back to the wand maker mollified. RE: June Hargrove - Bernadette Hawthorn - 08-03-2026 “SWEET BABY CLYDE, that was NOT IT.” Taking the wand in hand, stopping the jumping in its tracks, Bernie once again put it away with care, then placed it in the NOPE! Pile to be dealt with later. Leaning on the counter, she looked at the student closely. Studying everything from their hair color, eye color, freckles or glasses. It all went into finding the right wand. “You know…” she said thoughtfully. “There is this one, but I wouldn’t have thought…” trailing off her sentence. This was a fascinating case. One that was more puzzling than she would like to admit. Walking into the back room with no more words spoken, you could hear her rummaging around in the stacks looking for something. It took considerably more time for this round, one might even think she had given up and walked away, but then she came out of the back. There were two wand boxes in her hands. She took one and looked at it carefully, then the other. Then back to the first. Ultimately, the wand box in her left hand was put on the counter, while the one in her right was added to the nope pile. “Ok, I think this may be the one. It’s a bit more… shall we say… unexpected, but, let's see if it’s the one.” Opening the box, Bernie carefully took out the dainty looking wand. At one glance, it almost looked breakable, until you put your hands on it. The wood was strong and stable, emitting a strength from within. Many would doubt this wand, but the wielder would know the power it held. ”Holly wood with a Werewolf tooth core. 11inches and Sturdy” Handing it over, Bernie looked both excited and terrified to see what would happen next. RE: June Hargrove - June Hargrove - 08-05-2026 The little girl giggled at the antics of the Wand Maker. She wasn't sure who 'baby Clyde' might be, and jutted her chin out confidently when she had noticed the adult staring her down. While the professional slipped into the back of the shop, June looked at her family. Her older sister seemed a bit bored, but offered nothing more than a shrug. June wasn't present for her big sis's wand choosing, but she had been told it was also a dramatic affair. Something about Hargrove's and their Magic being very particular, her father warned her. Still, the dusty-ness of the shop was tickling the little girl's nose and she had hoped that it wouldn't go on for too much longer. June snapped back to attention, when the lady returned with a few more wand boxes. The brunette found her gaze drawn to one of the two boxes, and couldn't deny the slight shock when the Wand Maker decided to put the other away. Unbeknownst to her, June's father nudged the arm of her mother with a grin. They could both tell that this was the one just from their daughter's attention. The wand was revealed was dainty, thin. It seemed at most, a twig that Miss Hawthorn had found on the ground. But there was a deeper power laying within it, and it called to June. "Holly wood, Werewolf tooth.." June repeated back to the lady, eyes flicking up to her. Steeling herself, the little girl reached out and plucked the wand. A brilliant light illuminated her enclosed fist, followed by a gentle warmth. This was her wand. With a toothy grin, the girl waved her wand in a gentle figure eight pattern. The wand emitted gentle sparkles, brightening the dimly lit room. "This is my wand, Miss Hawthorn." June announced. It felt as if a missing piece was gifted to her, as if a long missed friend had returned from a journey. RE: June Hargrove - Bernadette Hawthorn - 08-19-2026 “OH GOOD FUN! We have a winner!” Bernie sings, dancing a jig behind the counter. “That is fantastic! And you only destroyed a small portion of my shop. Thanks for that, I appreciate the restraint.” Flitting around behind the counter, mumbling to herself while pulling a few things out here and there. “Ok, ARE YOU LISTENING?!” Green eyes wide, red hair fluffed out with her exertion. “I hope you are…” She said slowly, looking at the student carefully. “Here are the things you will need. FIRST!” She said with a flourish, “is your wand holster. You may strap it to your leg, or arm, sew it into clothing or use a pocket on the inside of your robes. DO NOT EVER! Put it in your back pocket. No No No. That's how little Tommy blew off a butt cheek. Yes he did. Big tadoo.” She trailed off, shaking her head at the poor unfortunate state of little Tommy. “NEXT! Here is a jar of polish and a rag. Keep. Your. Wand. CLEAN! Do not make me say it again. It is important. And don’t even get me started on using it to pick your nose or itch your ear.” Wide green eyes met those of the student, her hands went up over her head, miming an explosion, “Boom!” “AND THIRD! Wait… What's the third thing… umm, OH YES! Silly me. Have fun dear. Be good at Hogwarts, eat your veggies and stay away from the East Wing, I hear it’s haunted.” She gave them a knowing smile and walked away. As her back turned to the student, a small green leggy creature could be seen hanging on to her hat. Little Clyde, watching over his favorite human. |
