General Information

Character Name:
Odette Camille Sauvage

Type of Character:
Adult

Age:
27

Date of Birth:
10 January 1896

Blood Status:
Halfblood

Residence:
Brittany, France. Moving to Kent, England

Family:
*MOM: Marie Sauvage: 08 Feb 1869 (14 Oct 1920 Death)
*DAD: Henri Sauvage: 29 April 1868
*STEP MOM: Noémie Sauvage: 31 July 1888, Married 05 July 1921
*SISTER: Coralie Violette Sauvage: 12 September 1913

Odette’s parents both come from middle class halfblood roots. They are hardworking, sensible, and void of flashy extras. Henri works with the French Ministry of Magic in the Accidental Magical Reversal department. It was a good career, bringing in a good salary. Her mother Marie had long been a seamstress in a magical dress shop. It allowed for flexible hours and work from home opportunities.

Unfortunately, Marie became ill with cancer in the spring of 1920. Her health declined steadily. They were at the hospital regularly, but it was discovered that her disease was too far gone, and even magical means could not cure her. She succumbed to her cancer on the 14th of Oct, 1920

Shortly after her death, Henri completely unraveled. He truly loved his wife. He couldn’t bear to be in the house. Couldn’t cook, couldn’t comfort his girls, couldn’t look in her sewing room. He spent more time at work than ever before.

Then, one day, Henri met a woman, Noémie, and fell in love. Being with her made his grief quieter. She was twenty years his junior, much to the shock and dismay of his daughters. Odette wasn’t mad that her father had found someone new, but she was angry that he had completely checked out after her mother’s death. She was grieving too, but still had a sister to raise.

Noémie isn’t an evil woman. She never wanted children for herself, and upon marrying a widower, inherited two. Coralie, at eight, needed a mother figure and Noémie wasn’t interested. She simply… had no idea what to do with the girl. No maternal instinct whatsoever.

This forced Odette into the parental role, one that she didn’t ask for, but took on willingly. While her dad and new wife were on holiday, Odette was home with Coralie. She took on the role as mother, soothing nightmares, taking her on play dates, shopping for school and cooking dinners. Odette’s schooling was put on the backburner until Coralie was older. She still took a few classes here and there, but her professional training would have to wait.

Occupation:
French Ministry: Potion Regulations Division (Auditor) Sept 1918-Present
Part-Time as Apothecary Assistant Jan 1921-Present
Applying to be a Healer in Training with St Mungo's

Personality & History

Personality:
  • Reserved, highly structured, ambitious, and set in her ways.
  • Unbothered, chronically on time, competent in her studies.
  • She never raises her voice, but will stare at you silently until you realize you’re being stupid.
  • Disciplined, practical, fiercely loyal to her inner circle.
  • Dedicated to her work and family.
  • Holds herself and those around her to incredibly high standards.
  • With her magic, she is precise to a fault. While some people use heavy sweeping arm motions and elaborate counter-curses, Odette uses small, needle sharp wand movements and silent, non-verbal casting. If a spell requires three inches of wand motion, she will not waste an eighth of an inch more.
  • Odette hates grandstanding, overly dramatic spellwork and elaborate displays of wealth.
  • While working, she wears her hair pinned back, her Healer robes are always immaculate without a single wrinkle, and her shoes are sensible meant for long hospital shifts.
  • Odette keeps color coded notes, detailed charts, memorizes patient details, and cannot handle co-workers who guess at treatment. Stupidity isn't just annoying to her, in a hospital setting, it's a liability.
  • She is a terrible liar and is uncomfortable receiving praise.
  • Odette has almost no sense of humor when she's working. And hates asking for help.
  • Irritated easily by those who ask a lot of questions or learn slowly.
  • She forgets to eat when she's focused, never remembers to drink water, and has been known to get light headed because of it.
  • Odette is very sentimental. She carries in her apron a pair of her mothers small sewing scissors. They are magically sharp and have a bird etched into the handle.

History:
Odette Camille Sauvage was born in January 1896, under the sign of Capricorn. Many don’t believe in such things as astrology and zodiac signs, but Odette matches her sign to a T.

Born and raised in Brittany, France, Odette was a petulant child with a mind of her own. Everything had its place. Rules existed for a reason and were expected to be followed. While other children were outside playing in the fields getting muddy, Odette was inside reading and organizing her mother’s sewing thread.

Most of her childhood was spent at her mothers side, helping with the sewing, chores and cooking the family meals. She never complained, she liked order and helping wherever she was needed. This translated well to her early teen years as she went off to school.

Odette attended Beauxbaton Academy of Magic. Odette was well respected by her classmates, though her circle of close friends remained small. She was never the life of the party, preferring evenings spent studying or practicing spells over lavish social gatherings. Academics were never an issue, getting good marks in all her classes and exams. Learning came easy to Odette, loving the process of research and studying. Potions, Charms, and Herbology were her favorite subjects. Extracurricular activities took up the rest of her time, including Dueling, Wizards Chess and she played keeper for their school Quidditch team for four years.

In her academics, she has always been ambitious, disciplined, responsible, hard working, practical and patient. She is deeply loyal to her inner circle, which got significantly smaller once her mother died.

At the age of 18 Odette graduated Beauxbaton Academy of Magic and went on to study at the local magical college. There was no specific career in mind during her schooling, but was working towards a job with the Ministry when her mother became ill.

During her mother's illness, Odette spent hours watching Healers work. She asked questions, memorized potion names, and observed procedures while sitting beside Marie's bed. Although they couldn’t save her mother, she never blamed them. Instead, she became fascinated by the discipline of magical medicine and the knowledge required to practice it.

Odette took over raising her sister Coralie, while her father drowned in grief. As Coralie turned ten and was on the eve of attending school, Odette began to think about what she wanted to pursue as a career. One thing stands out amongst the rest, far away from her earlier career goals. The healers weren’t able to save her mother, but maybe in time, she could help save someone else’s.

When she turned twenty five, the trust her mother had established finally became available. Rather than spending it on comfort, Odette used nearly every knut to begin Healer training at St. Mungo's and to purchase a small home on Cobbler’s Lane outside of Kent.

Moving herself and Coralie to England was a shock. The climate was colder, the weather wetter and the sky was significantly more grey than their home in Brittany, France. She grew up with the sea air, rugged cliffs, herb gardens, salty wind and a small coastal village. While Brittany and Kent were both on the coast, Brittany was typically much warmer and sunnier. Something both girls missed.

Prompt Response:
This was absolutely unacceptable.

She knew it. There was no question she would be written up, and rightfully so.

The universe was against her from the moment she opened her eyes. A torrential downpour turned the streets into rivers. Coralie had chosen today of all days to refuse breakfast. A pipe under the kitchen sink had decided to leak. There was a stain on her freshly pressed uniform, gum on the sole of her shoe, her briefcase forgotten in the hall closet, and her hair... her hair refused to stay pinned where it belonged.

Magic could solve many problems. It could clean robes, dry hair, and shave minutes from the morning routine. But when the fates seemed determined to extend every second of the day into two, even magic had its limits.

It was infuriating.

The loud clip clap of her leather shoes echoed down the tiled hall, loud enough to resemble a galloping horse. It was hardly appropriate for a Healer in Training to be seen running down the hall, but every minute gained was a blessing.

There was no fixing this. No clever excuse. No way to get those lost minutes back. The only thing left to do was walk through the door, own the mistake, and move on.

She didn't do late.

Ever.

Except today.

"Ugh."

The meeting room was just ahead. Even before she reached the door, she could hear the muffled voice of her boss already discussing today’s case.

Mandatory.

Punctuality expected.

Attendance recorded.

Every step closer made her skin itch. A muscle under her left eye twitched with anxiety. This was the kind of first impression that stuck with you, and Odette hated giving anyone a reason to question her.

This could be fixed… Would be fixed. She just had to show up early, everyday and prove that she could do it.

Stopping just outside the door, Odette took a deep breath, ran her hands over her hair and uniform to put everything to rights, and ran her finger across her teeth to remove any potential lipstick stains.

Happy… or as happy as she could be with her appearance, she opened the door and walked in with purpose. Making eye contact with her boss, she dipped her head in apology and took her seat in the back, ready for whatever else the day could possibly toss her way.
