APPLICATION OVERVIEW AND TIMELINE

---

Once a student has completed their education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, or another accredited magical institution, they are eligible to enter professional training through the Ministry Academy of Magical Service.

The Academy oversees professional qualification for specialised careers throughout the British Ministry of Magic and other Ministry-regulated fields. Admission is competitive and determined by academic performance, demonstrated magical proficiency, professional suitability, character references, and aptitude for the applicant's chosen programme.

Applicants apply directly to a specific professional programme. Admission into one field does not automatically qualify an applicant for another, and each programme maintains its own academic and aptitude requirements in addition to the Academy's general admission standards.

Applications open annually on October 1st during a student's seventh year.

At this stage, OWL results, academic records, disciplinary history, references, and any relevant extracurricular or practical experience will be reviewed. Candidates meeting the preliminary requirements may be granted conditional acceptance and will ordinarily receive notification by January.

Following completion of NEWT examinations, candidates must submit their final results to the Academy. Academic eligibility will be confirmed no later than the third week of June.

Candidates who satisfy all academic requirements must then sit the appropriate Academy Entrance and Aptitude Examinations, which are held throughout July.

These examinations vary according to programme and may include written assessments, practical spellwork, interviews, physical examinations, psychological suitability assessments, field simulations, or specialist demonstrations.

Final programme placement is issued by August, with professional training beginning in September.

Conditional acceptance does not guarantee final admission. Failure to meet NEWT requirements or pass the required Academy examinations will result in withdrawal of the offer.

Applicants who are not accepted may re-sit relevant examinations through Ministry-approved channels and are welcome to reapply during the following admissions cycle.

Previous experience is strongly considered when evaluating applicants. Relevant experience may include apprenticeships, clubs, academic competitions, research, volunteer work, supervised employment, internships, field experience, or other sustained involvement connected to the applicant's intended profession.

Prior experience may strengthen an application but does not shorten the duration of professional training.

General Entry Requirements:

All Academy applicants must:

• Successfully complete Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry or another recognised magical secondary institution
  
  
• Receive a minimum of five OWLs graded E or above
  
  
• Receive no failing grade in any NEWT subject submitted as part of their application
  
  
• Meet all subject requirements established by their chosen professional programme
  
  
• Submit at least two satisfactory academic or professional references
  
  
• Pass the Academy's general character and conduct review
  
  
• Pass all programme-specific entrance examinations
  
  
• Meet any additional security, physical, psychological, or practical requirements associated with their chosen profession
  

Certain programmes maintain substantially higher entrance standards due to the danger, authority, complexity, or confidentiality associated with the profession.

PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Unlike general medical education, professional study through the Ministry Academy does not follow a single uniform course of study.

Candidates are admitted directly into their chosen field and complete between two (2) and five (5) years of professional training depending upon the complexity, danger, and responsibilities associated with the profession.

All Academy programmes nevertheless follow a standard developmental structure.

The earliest stage of training places emphasis on Ministry procedure, magical law, ethics, professional conduct, safe practice, and foundational knowledge.

As candidates progress, classroom instruction is increasingly replaced by supervised practical work within the relevant Ministry department or approved professional institution.

During the final stage of training, candidates are expected to demonstrate independent judgement, professional reliability, and readiness to exercise the authority associated with their chosen occupation.

Students participating in supervised Ministry work receive a standard practical training stipend of 35ʛ per month unless their programme grants a salaried professional rank during its later stages.

The amount of time spent within each developmental stage depends upon the duration and requirements of the candidate's individual programme.

Two-year programmes compress the Intermediate and Advanced stages into the final year of study.

Three-year programmes generally progress through one developmental stage per academic year.

Four- and five-year programmes devote additional years to advanced specialist instruction, professional placements, fieldwork, clinical work, research, or restricted training as appropriate to the profession.

The common curriculum does not replace specialist coursework. Candidates complete these subjects alongside the magical, legal, investigative, academic, scientific, creature-related, or practical instruction required by their chosen profession.

ACADEMY ASSESSMENT & PROGRESSION

---

Candidates are formally evaluated at the end of every academic year.

Evaluation considers academic performance, practical competence, professional conduct, attendance, judgement, magical control, and reports submitted by supervising Ministry personnel.

Progression into the following year is not automatic.

Students who fail to meet programme standards may be required to complete remedial coursework, repeat individual examinations, undertake additional supervised practical hours, or repeat an academic year.

Serious misconduct, abuse of magical authority, breach of confidentiality, falsification of records, criminal behaviour, or conduct that places members of the public at unreasonable risk may result in immediate suspension or removal from the Academy.

Graduation requires successful completion of all academic coursework, practical placements, departmental requirements, and a final professional assessment administered by an Academy qualification board.

Successful completion grants the professional qualification associated with the candidate's chosen programme.

Graduates may thereafter seek employment within the British Ministry of Magic or another institution authorised to employ practitioners within that profession.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OVERVIEW

The Ministry Academy of Magical Service serves as the principal professional training institution for witches and wizards seeking specialised careers within the British Ministry of Magic and other Ministry-regulated professions.

While general administrative and clerical positions may be entered directly following completion of a recognised magical education, careers requiring advanced magical practice, legal authority, specialist knowledge, access to classified information, or responsibility for public safety require formal professional qualification.

Admission is determined by academic performance, demonstrated aptitude, character references, and the results of the Academy Entrance Examinations. Applicants must have completed Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry or another recognised magical secondary institution before beginning professional study.

Entrance examinations are ordinarily held throughout July, with successful candidates receiving programme and departmental placement prior to the beginning of the academic year in September.

Previous professional experience may strengthen an application but does not reduce the required duration of a programme. All candidates must complete the same academic, practical, and professional requirements before receiving Ministry qualification.

During their studies, candidates divide their time between formal instruction at the Academy and supervised work within their assigned Ministry department.

Beginning with the practical portion of their programme, students are considered paid Ministry trainees and receive a standard stipend of 35ʛ per month.

Specialised programmes range from two to five years depending upon the complexity, danger, and level of responsibility associated with the profession.

Training places particular emphasis on practical competence, professional judgement, ethical conduct, magical control, discretion, and the ability to operate independently under pressure.

Failure to maintain programme standards may result in remediation, repetition of an academic year, suspension from practical duties, or removal from the programme.

Requirements during the professional training period:

While enrolled in an Academy programme, candidates must:

• Receive satisfactory evaluations from supervising Ministry personnel
  

Positions involving combat, emergency response, hazardous creatures, or field operations may additionally require physical fitness, defensive magic, first-aid, and emergency response examinations.

All programmes conclude with a final professional examination before a Ministry-appointed qualification board.

Successful graduates are considered fully qualified to practice within their field throughout the British magical government or, where applicable, within another Ministry-recognised institution.

AUROR RANK & TRAINING STRUCTURE

Because Auror work grants witches and wizards extensive investigative, arrest, and defensive authority, Auror qualification follows a mandatory four-year training structure.

Years One & Two — Auror Trainee

The first two years combine Academy instruction with controlled practical experience. Trainees may accompany qualified Aurors during investigations but may not independently conduct arrests, interrogations, raids, or high-risk field assignments.

Trainees receive intensive instruction in defensive magic, criminal investigation, magical law, surveillance, dark magic identification, counter-curses, evidence handling, protective enchantments, and advanced duelling.

Successful completion of the second-year examinations permits progression to Junior Auror status.

Years Three & Four — Junior Auror

Junior Aurors are sworn members of the Auror Office operating under restricted authority.

They may participate directly in investigations, arrests, raids, interviews, surveillance operations, and emergency responses, but remain subject to the supervision of a fully commissioned Auror.

During this period, Junior Aurors must demonstrate that they can exercise sound judgement independently rather than simply perform technically correct magic.

Junior Aurors receive a formal Ministry salary appropriate to their rank rather than the ordinary Academy trainee stipend.

Completion of the fourth year requires successful review of the Junior Auror's field record followed by written, practical, investigative, and combat examinations before the Auror Qualification Board.

Upon successful completion — Auror

Graduates receive a formal Ministry commission as Aurors and may conduct investigations, undertake assignments, make arrests, supervise trainees and Junior Aurors, and exercise the full authority granted to the Auror Office.

There is no accelerated route through the Auror programme. Previous military, law-enforcement, healing, duelling, or professional experience may contribute to admission but does not replace any stage of mandatory Auror training.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS

Certain professions carry additional admission requirements owing to the nature of their work.

• Aurors & Hit Wizards: Applicants must pass advanced defensive magic, physical fitness, reaction, psychological suitability, and duelling examinations.
  
  
• Obliviators: Applicants must demonstrate exceptional proficiency in Charms and pass enhanced ethical and psychological suitability reviews.
  
  
• Reversal Squad Members: Applicants must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Charms and Transfiguration.
  
  
• Barristers: Students must successfully complete all four years of Magical Jurisprudence before sitting the Ministry Bar Examination.
  
  
• Dragonologists: Students must pass annual field-survival and creature-handling examinations before progression.
  
  
• Veterinarians: Students must complete mandatory clinical placements involving multiple magical creature classifications.
  
  
• Unspeakables: Admission requires enhanced Ministry clearance before study begins. All students are bound by permanent confidentiality obligations regarding classified instruction, research, and departmental activity.
  
  
• Clearance Investigators: Candidates are subject to the same enhanced background investigation they will eventually be trained to conduct.
  
  
• Professors: Applicants must demonstrate advanced proficiency in the subject they intend to teach before entering professional teaching training. A degree in Magical Pedagogy certifies an individual's ability to teach; it does not replace mastery of the academic subject itself.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSING & EMPLOYMENT

Graduation from the Ministry Academy does not guarantee appointment to a particular Ministry office.

Graduates must still apply for available positions within the appropriate department and remain subject to Ministry hiring standards, background investigations, and departmental approval.

Professional qualifications, however, remain valid throughout the British magical world unless suspended or revoked through disciplinary action.

Ministry licences may be suspended or permanently revoked following serious professional misconduct, criminal conviction, abuse of magical authority, breach of confidentiality, or conduct demonstrating that an individual is no longer fit to exercise the responsibilities of their profession.

Annual professional evaluations are conducted following graduation for occupations involving law enforcement, public safety, restricted magical practice, classified information, education, or the care of magical creatures.

The Ministry reserves the authority to require additional training whenever substantial changes to magical law, professional standards, or public safety procedures occur.
