The Gryffindor common room, located in Gryffindor Tower was hidden behind the portrait of the Fat Lady. Entrance to the common room only could be gained by speaking the proper password, which changed regularly.
The Common Room was a well-lit and comfortably furnished space, equally suited to social gathering or studying. The many squishy, plush leather chairs and couches surrounding the space lent a very homy feel and the room was, naturally, decorated in Gryffindor scarlet and gold. a large rug dominated the center of the room and a fine tapestry depicting the Gryffindor crest hung above the fire place mantle.
Bookshelves dotted the walls, and portraits of various Gryffindor alumni dotted the walls. In the center of the room hung a large brass chandelier, casting warm light into every corner of the room. Even during the warmer summer months, a fire can be found crackling in the fireplace, a comforting note for most.
To either side of the common room, doors open to large spiral staircases leading to the boys dormitories on one side, girls dorms on the other. Adventurous and mischievous Gryffindor students tell stories about enchantments cast by the founders to prevent boys from entering the girls dorm.
